Inforum, Michigan’s professional women’s alliance conducted research and found that women in the state of Michigan earn 50% of bachelor’s degrees and 60% of advanced degrees. The drawback, women are only patenting their work at about 40% compared to men. Inforum’s mission statement includes closing that gap. They offer courses in entrepreneurship for women, which center on developing ideas, identifying customers, and launching the business. The program is open to any growth-oriented businesses. Inforum’s5-year goal is “to create at least 16 companies with $8 million in new capital investment”.
This organization received grants from the Michigan Economic Development Corp.’s Michigan 21st Century Jobs Fund and New Economy Initiative. The newly appointed vice president stated that they are looking for experience business professionals with diverse skills and experiences. Past June, Inforum is said to have graduated its first class of women with more than half of them preparing to launch their businesses.
